What is a CCRC? The Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)

The Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC, is a senior living community designed for independent adults, offering a maintenance-free lifestyle, with the promise of additional health care services should they be needed at any stage.

There are 2,000 CCRCs across the country, which are often called life care communities, because they are designed to incorporate all three senior living options into one environment, supporting every potential stage of senior life.

  • Independent Living
  • Assisted Living
  • Skilled Nursing and Long-Term Care

Planning Ahead is Key

Entering a CCRC is usually a once-in-a-lifetime choice, and that’s the appeal. Residents join while they are active and still able to live independently. They meet friends, join activities and settle into their home. Later, if they require additional health care, they can receive it right in the same campus, from health care staff they already know.

In order to enter a CCRC, you must qualify both financially and medically. There are many different types of CCRCs, and just as many different kinds of contracts and costs.

The RiverWoods Advantage

90% of the first person entrance fee is refundable to you or your estate in the event of your passing, or if you leave the community, upon resale of your independent unit.

Guaranteed access to private Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing for as long as you need, with no time limit, and no significant increase in fee (just a small fee for two additional meals per day while residing in Assisted or Skilled).

  • Three residents hold voting seats on our board.

  • Benevolent Fund to assist financially struggling residents.

The RiverWoods Difference

Resident driven
The values and vision of our founders are seen in every aspect of the RiverWoods communities. Residents are voting members of our Board, run many enterprises on campus and play a key role in shaping the life of the community.

A smart investment
RiverWoods provides outstanding estate preservation through a 90% refundable entrance fee. Predictable monthly fees ensure confidence in your future, allowing residents to move between levels of care without leaving their community, and without significant increase in cost.

Total life care
You will enjoy an active, independent lifestyle with access to Assisted Living, Memory Care and Skilled Nursing when and if you need it. If a resident outlives their assets, our Benevolence Program ensures that they’re never asked to leave, ensuring peace of mind for your future.

A vibrant community
The RiverWoods community is rich in physical, social, academic and cultural opportunities. From fitness classes to lectures, art studios to community organizing, there is never a shortage of activities to pursue, independently or with friends.
